OMMA Apologetic (1 of 14)

OMMA Apologetic (1 of 14)

Our Mission at OMMA is:

“TO CHANGE LIVES FOR GOD’S GLORY, USING CHRIST-CENTERED MARTIAL ARTS.”

In the Christian world we talk a lot about “GLORIFYING GOD,” often with the assumption that it is understood what that means. In some ways, the definition is simple, yet there are layers of depth to it that I believe we can spend a lifetime unpacking.

In the OMMA dojos, when people ask how Christianity and the martial arts relate, I tell them that our goal is that we would “Honor the LORD JESUS in the practice of our martial arts” and that it is a continual journey as far as what that looks like in a practical sense.

Over the next couple weeks, leading to the New Year, I will be posting a series of 14 blog posts in which we seek to define what we mean by glorifying God and what that looks like in our lives as a follower of Christ and what it looks like in the activities we participate in within our OMMA community.

Thanks for reading!

ONE (1 of 14): Glorifying God is our chief purpose.

(Go to next post in the series)

The first question in the Westminster Catechism is “What is the chief end of man?” The answer is, “Man’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” Church history is filled with similar statements, so we are in good company when making much of the Lord is our #1 thing.

This is why the first Scripture we memorize at OMMA is 1 Corinthians 10:31: “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

I’ve heard it said that this means, in layman’s terms, to “make a big deal out of God.” It’s not about us first, but about Him first. Other Scriptures that address this are found in Isaiah and Romans:

“Everyone who is called by My name, and whom I have created for My glory,
whom I have formed, even whom I have made.”
– Isaiah 43:7

“For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory
forever. Amen.”
– Romans 11:36

Over the next 13 days, we will try to unpack this a little more. 🙂

May we daily remember to keep Him #1 in all we do!

Keep Fighting the Good Fight!

Blessings,

Marco
